    My car

Having bought this car in May 2007 and covered over 33,000 miles since, I can honestly say that this has been the worst car I have ever owned.

The main gripe I have with the car is the driveability of the turbo diesel engine linked to the DSG auto. This gearbox was billed as the next generation of automatic gearboxes but, in combination with this deisel engine, is the worst gearbox I have encountered. It is continually in the wrong gear at low speeds; when attempting to reverse the car lurches backwards if you apply any acceleration. This makes parking a nightmare, my girlfriend has already bumped the rear bumper trying to park.

This issue has overshadowed any other redeeming features the car may have. The service from local VW has been poor, they are unable to make the gearbox more driveable and I am met with a resigned shrug when I mention this now.

if anyone out there is considering buying this car with the DSG gearbox, my advice is DON'T.

    My car

Just sold the vehicle after owning it for just over a year.Ran 3 other VWs before which were good! Now have left VW for BMW. The Passat was roomy, comfortable and had bags of room but build quality was nowhere near as good as the previous VWs. Over the year a few issues worthy of noting. Front tyres wore quicker than I had hoped - around 18k miles; shop around the tyre places before a service and certanly don't ask/let the dealer replace them, your invoice will go through the roof! Rattling clutch pipe that had to be fixed twice, creeking front suspension needing replacement bushes at 20k and at the last service (30k)a diagnosis of mishapen rear tyres, the only remedy would have been to replace them despite having 3mm of tread left on each. Dealer said it was the way the car goes over speed bumps. Watch the oil consumption if your a high mileage motorway driver - always had to replenish between services when the oil warning light came on. Filling the oil is an act of trial 'n' error as the dipstick is next to useless! No problems with fuel pump though and it was replaced as precaution at 30k service under recall arrangements. Overall not too bad a car but certainly under par for the price & badge.

    My car

I bought this 06 plate 1.9tdi passat after i had previously owned an 03 plate 1.9tdi. The 03 plate was one of the best running cars i had driven and reliability was great. I bought this 06 plae jan 2008 and have had numerous problems fuel pump replaced, flywheel/clutch replaced 28000miles electronics panel away one day whilst i was refueling leaving me stranded and 65pouds out of pocket for tow which vw dont cover under warranty. Passenger door fault awaiting repair. Leaky boot which vw is trying to blame on towbar which is nonsense and currently under dispute with them.Just in for a service at my vw approved garage and there is vibration through clutch pedal again. I took in to vw and suprise suprise they are trying to fob me off. Last time i took it in for clutch they said there was nothing wrong but i persisted in taking it back week later and they replaced it saying flywheel faulty. There answer to how they did not find week previous, well weve found it now so whats the problem. The customer service is terrible and the vw garage wonder why i dont take my car to there garage for service, so i duly told them i can get my service for a fracion of the price at a vw approved garage with more competant mechanics. I run a taxi business and would not advise anybody to buy. vw were once a good car but i would not say so now.

    My car

Previously had an 03` 1.9tdi(130)ps SE and covered 60,000 in 18 months. Can honestly say it was the best car I have had in terms of comfort, refinement, power, ease of use and reliability. Thus it was with anticipation i picked up this one. Can honestly say that after 5000 miles and 2 months I really dislike this car - the excessive road and mechanical noise is driving me up the wall, combined with the unacceptable VW2008 build quality - it creaks and rattles all over the place and it rides worse than a 90s Cavalier! The engine is awful - thrashy and gutless unless you are revving it - the brakes squeal also. Feels like it has covered 100000miles. Oh dear VW - cost cutting like this will destoy your brand
