    My car

A very easy drive thanks to light steering a slick gearshift. 1.2 12v 3-cyl engine is refined and economical and never feels underpowered. Cabins quality materials makes it look great despite being a bit bland, and the blue dial backlighting at night adds to the classy atmosphere inside the cabin.

The interior is solidly constructed, but my car has been prone to some rattles coming from the centre console. No other problems to report yet but I've only owned the car for a week.

    My car

Beautifully finished, neater than the Golf for my wife.

Three cylinders are not as silly as one would think and only slightly noisy if used properly. Road noise is more intrusive than the engine.

Surprisingly beefy torque where one would want it. Making the car a pleasure to drive. 70mph at only 2,800rpm with plenty in hand. Timing chain (with balancer shaft) as opposed to the unpredictable belt.

Diesel injectors are electronically timed their own camshaft operated individual pumps (only three remember!). Clutch is very smooth and light. Gear ratios ideal for both town and country.

55mpg overall easily obtained in urban use. Well equipped even in Twist form with air-conditioning included. No service due for two years under three year or 30,000 mile warranty. Electric speed sensitive power steering excellent.

    My car

I bought this car for my wife in June this year.

We have been really pleased. Before we had a 1999 1.0L Polo, which we had from new. It was well built, and she liked it, but it was a dog to drive.

By contrast, this has a lively, free-revving 1.4 TDI engine and handles extremely well. It is roomier, better equipped and is fun to drive. A very different experience to my Merc, which I love to drive for different reasons!

It seems to always return over 50mpg and the packaging seems good value in this Twist form.

Overall, a very good car. Additionally, over the past few years we have noticed a strong improvement in the service we get from the VW dealer.

    Satisfied customers!

    My car

I have had 9 VW Polos over the years all from brand new including two new style 02 and 03 Polos. Never in all my life have I felt so let down with them.

The 02 Polo went back to the dealer a total of 8 times with the emissions light on and they replaced the lamba probe about 3 times.

Now my 03 version, which they replaced for my 02 version with, is playing up with the same problem. It has been back to the dealer 3 times to date and I'm now having to ring today and get them to do something with it as the light is on yet again.

The dealer replaced the car as I think they felt sorry for me! I think that I'm now at the end of my love affair with VW Polos and will never ever buy one again after this one is fixed. I will now consider anything that can only be an improvement.

Maybe a Nissan Micra??? I would never recommend VW Polos again!
