    My car

The Polo 1.2 was my ally in a long distance drive from North West France to Monaco and back again.

In total an approximately 1800 mile round trip was covered in five days and this left me astounded at the refinement and stability of this car.

The three-cylinder engine has a pleasing note and was relativley refined even at higher speeds.

There is also sufficient power to keep up with manic Cote d'Azur crazies.

Noise insulation was particularly impressive as was its stability at speed. From autoroutes to the inner city to mountain hairpins the car was first rate and is now firmly on my shopping list for my next set of wheels.

    My car

Having owned this car from new, I have had very few problems of late.

Initially after purchasing the vehicle, there was a few teething problems, such as a leaking rear washer pipe and a small oil leak.

Since then I have had only one minor breakdown when a coil ceased to work when around town (not much fun when only driving with two cylinders).

The 1.2 isn't the quickest due to the car's weight but it has good fuel consumption.

The dealer was very helpful and I managed to get a discount although the cars were very popular. Breaking down was surprising but you get one year's free Volkswagen Assistance that provides you with a courtesy car, as you would expect.

The car itself is very well made and you can even hear the toughness when closing the door. The interiour isn't as drab as What Car? makes out and is of very high quality.

I would definitely recommend the polo if you are looking for a safe, sturdy, comfortable and economic ride.
