    My car

Bought new in 2005 to accomodate a 17 year old son learning to drive after a series of Alfas, so a bit of a change for me too. Despite reservations I am impressed with the 1.2 engine which is surprisingly quick and free revving around town and quite good fun to drive in a minimalist way. Personally I like the slight thrum from the 3 cylinders and would definitely go for the 1.2 over the 1.4 again.

The gears, clutch and steering are all light to use, although the steering lacks ultimate feel, but the car is ideal around town and for occassional longer trips.

Downsides, poor over speed humps, slight rattle from dashboard, saftey features like curtain airbags missing, it's behind the opposition here, and as all the controls are so light it takes concentration to drive smoothly.

Overall fit for the purpose and genearlly feels solid but I am glad I didn't go mad on the budget and stuck to a sub 10k model for what is essentially a good runaround suited to urban driving conditions.

    My car

This car has a few problems. Due to the height of the car, its handling is poor and rolls in the bends. This is not helped by the 14" wheels fitted to most models The ride is lacking in feel and the steering is far too light. The interior cabin is very bland, everything is there but its just so full. The engine does pull well but due to the low rev range you needs to change gear more often. The main good things are that it is spacious, practical and classy.

    My car

Bought this car brand new in 2002. First faults apparent on picking the car up and these were the first in a catalogue of problems and included loose driver's seat, faulty electric mirror switch, badly fitted door trim, broken suspension spring, defective injector coils, replacement shock absorbers, anti-roll bar bushes and faulty abs module! Now the car is out of warranty, it's letting rain water in like a sieve! VW reliability? Lousy, as is their branch and HQ-based customer service. NEVER AGAIN - ROVER R.I.P.
