USED Volkswagen Sharan MPV (95 - 11)

My car

Wife has 2.0s returns between 24-30 mpg,drives like a car,as she pointed out when we looked at changing it it has seven individual seats all three levels of windows open good visabilty easy access to all seats Generally the car has been reliable although heavy on oil interior quality is shocking ,with cheap plastics that are hard to clean and break really easily.In my job I have driven most MPVs and I would say that the Sharan is easily the best.Would recommed to others.

My car

My vehicle is a 1998 Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDI (110) which has now done 146,000 miles.

Overall, it has been very reliable. I have had to replace the usual items, such as a mass air flow sensor three times, as well as other regular maintenence items. The vehicle has led a hard life (I have a large family) and has never let me down, however the majority of Ford dealers are useless, so keep away from them. I have done all maintenence work myself (outside of warranty) except for a cambelt replacement.

I can recommend the vehicle. I had been interested in the new (2006) Galaxy until I found out it does not have a spare wheel (only tyre injection kit) - what morons make these descisions? Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that when you have a blowout at motorway speeds by the time you are on the hard shoulder the tyre is trashed, so they have changed 15 minutes pain in the neck into a major problem!

Get the outgoing model if there are any still in stock, or buy a Seat Alhambra.

Reg'd 6/04 Last review Jan07. 2 more years of great service in local trips and trips to French house - always over 40mpg. Only problem has been rear underfloor heater, replaced under extended warranty. Reading reader reviews for other MPVs, what can I get that will be better??

My car

I have now had this car for over 5 years and completed 64000 of its 77000 miles. It has carried huge loads of people and gear well and pulled a caravan round France every year. It's good to drive, with tidy handling given its size and very easy to cover large distances without stress. Performance is OK. Fuel consumption is excellent at 40-45mpg and sometimes over 35mpg towing a caravan. The width, height, weight and engine torque make it a very good towcar. Mechanically its stongly made but much of the interior is very brittle. Ventilation and aircon is poor, and the air conditioning system has failed once. There have ben several electical faults including one breakdown, wipers have failed, the air intake ECU also failed causing a big loss in performance, this however was not identified by three Volkswagen dealers, only found by colleague who is a Volkswagen technical trainer! It rattles and squeaks continuously (cardboard helps)! and bits fall off. However it still feels solid to drive and performs better than ever. Its been a good buy.
