    My car

Had this car for 2½ months & my overall opinion is that it’s well proportioned, roomy, good spec and reasonable price. It’s economical too, coming in at more than 47 miles per gallon on the commuter run.

However, there’s a problem - the suspension. Gareth below describes it as ‘firm’ but, I can’t agree, it’s actually both primitive & harsh. While deciding what version to get a dealer claimed that VW don’t ‘do’ hard suspensions and to prove it we had a quick drive in an R-line version, (which has the same suspension). We drove over some rough surfaces, and yes, the ride seemed fine.

But the problem is not with deep potholes – it’s to do with how it copes with the normal surface variation you get on any UK road. Drive it for any length of time & you notice even the slightest defect will transmit sharp vibrations into the car. The faster & further you go, the worse it gets, it’s tiresome and uncomfortable. This from the so called market leader!!

Apparently the engineers wanted to make this a ‘drivers’ car. That’s all very well but have VW any idea who buy SUV’s? It’s families & what they want is both safety & comfort. What is the point of being able to go around corners as if on rails if by the time you get to you’re destination your brain’s been scrambled? This is not a car for long journeys.

The Tiguan is a good but compromised package, if you’re considering buying one insist on a proper test drive & make sure you can live with the ride. Otherwise avoid.

    My car

One of the two fuel pumps went on collection day. Being new it's hard to get spares for this car. Still waiting on first one ordered to be ready, and had to settle for similar one within the country in the meantime.
