Purchased our Escape with manual gearbox new in May 2010 after what seemed like a very long wait from placing the order in early January. The wait is well worth it and delivery times haven't improved since if teh Owners Website www.mytiguan.com is anything to go by....We added quite a lot of options for dleivety and thsu held up teh oder a lttle rather tahn taking a distributr's stock vehicle... We cannot recommend highly enough the panoramc sunroof, it is terrific. The factory fitted (hidden) towing ball and electrics are equally brilliant. This is without doubt a superb al-wheel drive car with some mighty credits to its name. Off road it performs extremely well its abilities with its 28% approach angle quite remarkable. The hill-hold electronic handbrake is most useful, but the hill descent "offroad electronic diff-locks, although very very good if you are lazy and on rock, lose ground, fresh snow, mud etc does has obvious limitations in ice on descents when obvioulsy the grip available from the tyres is never going to be that good, better to drive without electronics "helping". This would be true for any car after all - there is no excuse for driving experience in a variety of conditions.
We have had no problems at all in almost 9 moths of ownership and the car has not had to go back to the distributor for any reason yet, so with its first service due in May we shall by then have covered around 8000 miles. Driving perormance is more than adequate and it handles well.
Bought escape version automatic with full spec March 2009 on road price £31500 but bought new at £28K- it has yet to go back to the dealership! Still waiting for first service indicator (car done 12000miles). Car has been perfect; quiet, smooth, responsive, beautifuly built in typical German style and finish. Absolutely no faults. This i find refreshing after owning at Discovery 3 for 10 dreadful months of faults and breakdowns and indeed 3 RAV4s all had recalls and occ faults with satnavs/engine faults. I hope this is a sign VW are regaining their past reputation for reliability? I particularly like the autohold (standard on tiguan unlike Q5) when paired to the triptronic gearbox driving is truly effortless and a godsend in stop/start traffic. Best car i have ever owned.
I purchased the Escape as it will tow an amazing 2500kgs far more than ANY of its competitors in this class. Having downgraded from a 3.0 Audi A6 LeMans in order to tow a horse trailer for my partner, I am delighted and more than a bit surprised with the performance and handling, fuel economy is excellent even when towing 2500kgs!! Not even an BMW X3, Freelander, or Volvo XC90 can tow so much. Built in Sat Nav is touch screen and is a must so easy to use is great. VW have built a stylish 4x4 that is going to be a winner.
