We wanted a 4WD Diesel Auto Crossover because last winter my wife's Mk 5 Golf DSG found snowy roads/steep hills in Derbyshire's Peak District impassable over the winter.
We spent months trying 'crossovers' - CRV (too big), Q5 (too pricy), Qashqai (diesel particulate filter problems), XC60 (too costly) and Yeti (no diesel auto available) which left Tiguan as a default choice!
By April we were ready to buy and located a 6 month-old dealer-demo R-Line Tiguan Auto with an excellent spec and nice colour scheme. This became my wife’s car and the Golf and my old M5 made way for it. (Don’t feel too sorry for me I use a TT Roadster as my own car!)
Contrary to expectation after reading reviews in 'WhatCar' we did not find the ride at all harsh. I suppose it depends on tastes and previous vehicles and several Lotus Elans & Elises must colour ones judgment.
Fuel consumption seems reasonable at 38 to 44 mpg. Handling is excellent and very hot-hatch like. Well done VW! Seats are genuinely luxurious and the beautiful corn-silk (cream)leather really makes the vehicle look very up-market. Frankly I prefer it to the much more expensive Audi Q5 (also tested and considered). Hint: choose electric seats in Tiguan for the lumbar support!
Our Tiguan has been totally reliable and has not been to a dealer since we bought it in April.
Now with 11,000 miles on the clock I have no complaints other than the costs of 255/40 R19 tyres to equip it with winter grade rubber.
after waiting more than 4 months for my new r line which i took delivery in early march i have now done nearly 1500 miles in it i find the ride great and and very comfortable i like the height that you sit at and my oppinion the vision is great and much better than my last car a mercedes cclass coupe i am averaging around 40mpg this is mostly urban with 45 to 50 mpg on long runs the only gripe i have is the autohold function which i have now turned off because i kept stalling the engine too much apart from that i would not hesistate to recomend the car to anyone my favourite the radio with the big screen i paid 26000 for the car with park assist winter pack and dab which the price is quite steep but in my oppinion has been worth it as the mercedes which was a bit cheaper spent weeks at the dealer !!!
I eagerly took delivery of my Tiguan last October having waited 3 months for it, I had previously run a CRV for 3 years which I had loved. At the begining of March I take delivery of an XC60 it will be a long time before I buy another VW.
The build standard and equipment levels are first rate, apart from the minor glitche of the wrong steering wheel being fitted in the factory. Having a manual box meant that I had no need for flappy paddles.
Now the downside I too have experienced trouble with repeated stalling and the clutch plays havoc with my dodgy hips. The electronic parking brake has a mind of its own I took it back to the dealer only to be told that no fault showed on the computer!!!!. I have found vision to be a problem both rewards and peripheral which does not inspire me with confidence and to cap it all in the recent cold spell the car froze up and could not be opened whereas no problem with my wifes Peaugot.
As I said never again.
I've had the SDV6 XS for just over a week and…
