    My car

Pretty car which is comfortable and safe to drive. Had problems from the roof from about 1K miles onwards -squeeking from the shut lines and windows.Local dealer stated this was a recognised problem whch had a fix direct from Volvo. Corrected the problem in the short term - but am uneasy when it runs out of warranty period. Returns about 27 mls per gal. The 2.4 engine seems underpowered to pull this heavy car, but the folding roof is a head turner. Do not consider it to be a four seater - as per the last model, still a 2+2. On retaxing this car in its 2nd year found that it is a band G car not F as stated in Whatcar. My wife loves the car saying it miles better than her '04 C70. I find it inert to drive and not particularly fast - but very satisfying on long runs on a sunny day with the roof down.

    My car

Having now owned my C70 for 1 year and 11,000 miles, I can only say how delighted I have been with this model. There have only been a few minor teething problems. Firstly, roof rattled a little due to the incorrectly located wiring loom in the head lining (fixed by a Volvo recall). Secondly, two circular stains on the rear roof down plastic cover behind the passenger seats (caused by the two rubber buffers holding it in place when the roof is up). Again this as resolved by the dealer replacing the shelf and adjusting the pressure excerted by the rubber stops.

Other than these minor irritations, the car is a pleasure to drive, looks great as both a coupe and convertible and has a luxurious quality feel.

I chose to add the folding mirrors (although I was disappointed they don't fold automatically when turning off the ignition), the wind baffle and the park assist - all highly recommended (especially the park assist as with a high boot to stiore the roof, rear visibility is restricted). Overall a great car and well worth a look. Certainly better than the 3 Stars awarded by What Car?

    My car

Before buying, I looked at a lot of other hard-top convertibles including the Vauxhall Astra TwinTop and VW Eos.

The Volvo stood out as a more refined and luxury alternative. It is quiet and refined to drive with a well-finished interior and stylish exterior.

The roof works well in operation except that you have to keep your finger on the button so you can't do anything else in the 30 seconds it takes.

My main bugbear has been rattles with the roof up. It has taken six months and five visits to the dealer to get it sorted out, and then very reluctantly. Hopefully it is now sorted and I can enjoy the car in peace!

Volvo's 'customer services helpline' is a joke. It took 45 minutes to speak to a human, only to be told there's nothing that can be done. They don't answer letters either.

    My car

I've just had a week-long test drive of the D5 SE (thanks to Stratstone Birmingham). The car had about 6000 miles on it so was good to see what a 'run in' car would be like. I had mixed weather so spent 600 miles or so with both top up and down.

Good points: Roof - Works well and the car is as quiet as my C-class on most roads. Even in the back at 70mph the passengers were happy and you could talk to them without shouting. Equipment - Crisp and well laid out controls - High Performance stereo was good - Dyanaudio can only be better. Quality - Well put together (better than my C and better than my neighbour's 5 series - his opinion) Boot size - It isn't huge, but I test packed it with our ususal holiday kit and it was fine - no roof down option. Noise levels - D5 is unobtrusive even with roof down

Less good (there weren't bad points) Fuel economy - On the same journey my 2.7 diesel in the C-class does 49mpg to this C70's 37mpg Squeaks - Some minor squeaks from the roof. They go if there is any damp about, so I assume it is the rubber seals, and opening the windows and shutting them again seemed to sort that out. Ride - not as smooth as the Mercedes, but by no means bad.

Summary - Good enough for me to want to order one. Going for the SE LUX D5 but will have to wait 'til Christmas to get one on my company car scheme.

This is a fine mid-life crisis car - sensible and safe; not over-exciting; can be used to ferry the family; but, makes you feel good and is ge
