Thhis car is 13 months old and its first service cost £268, which seems reasonable. The rear oxygen sensor needed replaced after the recent dirty supermarket fuel issue and there was a minor fault with driver's window switch. There were also some manufacturer upgrades carried out during the service.
It's a fast cruiser, I would say, and the car has been an absolute pleasure to drive. Fitted with 18-inch wheels, it can follow road contours, but has created no problems. It's very comfortable and relaxing to drive with the roof down and an absolute pleasure. There's plenty of power and it's very quiet. I'm delighted with the geartronic gearbox.
Rear park sensors are a must. The car turns quite a few heads and attracts a lot of comments, positive I might add.
Overall, I'm very, very pleased with the car and the drive.
In terms of fuel economy, from Glasgow to London it returned 33mpg, on weekend runs it manages 28mpg, and for local runs it does 24-26mpg. On sunny days with the roof down - who cares? There is no discernable difference in fuel economy whether using 95 or 99 RON fuel.
I've had the car 3 months. I've owned several Volvos in the past including the previous C70. This model is a big improvement on the old one, which shook like a jelly. I find this one only shakes very little on poor road surfaces, and on good roads it's fine.
The SE Model is very well equiped (now includes a socket for an mp3 connection), but I added Xenons, Folding Mirrors, and Park Assist (Front and Rear). The Park Assist is brilliant and I would recommend it . The cabin is finished to Volvo's usual high standard, and the car is a very comfortable and relaxing drive.
I ordered the full size spare wheel option, because I didn't want to be stranded if I had a badly damaged tyre and the foam repair system couldn't cope. The spare comes packed in a bag, but reduces the boot space to half when the roof is down. However as I'm retired and only two of us use the car, I ordered a cover for the rear seat and keep the Wind Blocker permanently in place, thus using the rear seat for luggage.
Todate everything is working perfectly. My only slight concern is that roof is reliable long term, because it is a very complicated mechanism, but I guess this applies to any folding roof of this type.
This is a really fabulous safe convertible with beautiful lines, roof up or down, and I'm very surprised that Whatcar has only given it a 3 Star rating. In my opinion it is much better than that.
Took delivery last March 2006 as one of the first built and delivered (not my intention or expectation) as ordered late November 2005 & told delivery would be Autumn 2006. Was concerned about an early build! Ownership is easy and enjoyable as its extremely comfortable despite a firmish ride from the 18in wheels (don't order these as it tramlines excessively and impairs ride quality and stability). Its a class act and is rare on the roads even now. In fact, never spotted another on the road and I've done 10000mls now in my first year. Problems? Well, its been off the road 11 days due to a pinched wire along a roof strut requiring a new wiring loom fitting and an annoying rattle & creaks from the roof that appear to be getting worse as it gets older despite the dealers best endeavours. Its not very engaging to drive but its safe, secure and easy to drive. The tiptronic gearbox is excellent, the engine strong if not scintillating and overall refinement levels very high. Returns 26mpg in T5 trim. A posers paradise for sure and exclusivity as the road is full of Audi cabriolets!
My 2.4i sport is now 3months old and has covered 3000 miles.
It arrived with a busted rear storage compartment that I am still waiting for Volvo to source. At around 1000 miles an annoying rattle developed in the roof that Volvo is yet to cure. Other than that the interior is good quality. I have the power seats which rank among the most comfortable I have sat in. The stereo is good but let down by no socket for an MP3 player, even Fiestas get these! Good leg room and head room front and rear. Boot space is excellent.
The ride is a little bumpy but I did opt for the 18 inch wheels so to be expected. The steering and handling is a little vague. I would have preferred to feel more connected to the road (previous car was Alfa 156 so I have been spoilt). The Volvo has a tendency to follow any imperfection in the road (wheel selection again!) but also on a smooth camber free road it drifts slightly to the left.
Engine torque and response is good, acceleration is good, the wheels spin easily on damp roads. You will use your share of the world’s oil reserve: At 1700kg it is a heavy car, expect around 22mpg around town, 25mpg on the commute and up to 28mpg for a Sunday drive. The exhaust note puts a smile on you face, only a shame that the exhaust is hidden on the 2.4i.
Overall the car is better than I expected so I would definitely recommend you take a test drive.
