i have found this car to be reliable to an extreme. I have owned all sorts of cars from Hondas to Renault and i have found the Volvo dealership to be one of the best i have ever delt with (the worst has to be Honda due to there over inflated opion of themselves). Being a 2 ltr petrol it is not the most economical car but you cannot beat the quiet ride - when at traffic lights i can only hear the other car engines and not the Volvos. The boot is on the small side but i new this when i bought the car and i am amazed at the amount of reveiws that list this as a complaint. i will be having another volvo after this and i may treat myself to a S80.
I was given this Volvo S40D as a temporary company car but I won't be choosing one again. The engine has some poke but that's all I can say positive about it. The seats are too firm and the lack of space in the cabin makes it a difficult drive if you've got kids. There are hardly any storage spaces. The dashboard has no trip computer and the strange ignition is in the centre of the console - bizzare! And if I hear anyone else tell me I've left the lights on when I haven't! Go for the Passat or Mondeo would be my recommendation. Over-priced for what you get.
Have had my Band new Volvo S40 2.oltr D dor 2 months and its been superb plenty of acceleration and pulling power and well fast enough and cruising at a steady 70mph plus i stil get 50 plus to the gallon!! Dont know how but it does. Far better than my old astra and everyone loves the style and shape and size of the car cant say enough to praise the car and the interior is superb in quality but mp3 connection should be usb type not silly little fidly unknown connection type. Just wish i had the extra cash to have got the full leather interior but you cant have it all!!
I have owned this car, 56 reg 2007 model for nearly 5 months and am hugely dissapointed with it. I bought the car as i liked the look of it, and having previously had 3 VW golfs, it seemed like you get a lot more for your money with the Volvo.
How right i was, except alot more in the way of problems. The car has been back to the dealer 3 times now, as it keeps losing all power, usually when i'm on the motorway, and is highly dangerous, having to coast onto the hard shoulder. Turning the ignition on and off cures the problem temporarily but it tends to happen again quite soon afterwards, or the revs are restricted and it accelerates very slowly, which isn't ideal when trying to rejoin a busy motorway.
The first time i was told it needed a software upgrade, last week it had a new fuel pump fitted, so i'm interested see what Volvo have to say this time as it cut out on me again this morning on the way to work.
I bought the car from Motorpoint for £10999 - they won't swap it and have offered me £8500 to trade it in for something else, so i also won't be going there again either.
I had no trouble with my previous 3 Golfs and will be looking to return to a VW as soon as possible. The build quality and interior design and feel are vastly superior to the Volvo. The only good thing about it is the fuel economy and the seats which are very comfortable
