I purchased the car May 04 (ex demo) one year old with 34 miles on the clock. The salesman without a shadow of doubt made you feel human - answering all questions I believe honestly (rare I would say).
26,456 miles later and to date (touch wood) NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. As people have stated, yes it's a bit of boat cornering but excellent ride otherwise - even my wife likes to borrow it.
The stereo in the car is the best I have come across as standard - no need to upgrade.
People have an opinion of Volvo drivers (cap and pipe) - but this one is not your ordinary driver.
I would recommend the car and Volvo. (And no, I do not work for Volvo)
Since my previous post when my car had covered 38,000 miles I'm now into my last week of ownership with it - and yes - I am buying another one except this time it will be an S60 D5 SE with Geartronic.
My current car now has 59,000 on the clock with no problems to report at all in the last 21,000 miles.
The engine feels better now than the day I took ownership as it has 'loosened up' nicely and will no doubt serve its next owner well for at least as many more if correctly serviced.
If you are considering an S60 I would certainly recommend adding at least the Rear Parking sensors to your option list, and perhaps a protective treatment such as 'Diamond Bright' - it really does work and helps you ensure your cars looks its best at trade in time.
Do your homework and you may be able to get the £300 treatment for free as I did when negotiating the new deal.
Here's looking forward to the next 59,000+ miles!
I owned this car for a year and it was fantastic. The D5 engine is superbly responsive and the trim and finishing of the cabin was first class.
I will buy another one.
An exceptional long-distance car thanks to excellent seats and a driving postion which is both ergonomically and anatomically good. The relationship of the steering wheel and pedal alignment and heights is ideal. Noise levels are reasonable and the ride is adequate. Steering feedback and feel is not good and the turning circle is a joke. Roll damping is quite poor. Economy is 44 mpg - the computer says 51, but is hopelessly inaccurate. As a small but irritating niggle, even in SE trim the leather trim on the steering wheel is quite unpleasant to touch. Overall a refined and good-value car, unfortunately residuals do not help the cost of ownership.

I've had 6 VWs now including this one and it is a mixed bag. In no particular order the economy is poor despite the FSI badging and in town never…
Why is there so much whining about the rear sets? It's small - it's called a "mini" (hint). It didn't get any smaller after you bought it, so deal…
