A wonderful car. I drove a top of the range Rover 75 before they went bust, and swapped it three weeks ago for a Mercedes Benz C class. After three weeks of incredibly uncomfortable driving, my grey cells began to function again and I bit the finacial bullet and bought the Volvo.
It is an absolute joy to drive - lovely colour, internally (beige leather)and externally (cedar green). Lots of self-satisfying toys and great fuel figures. I reckon I am getting 42 mpg on average, but the comfort and quality far exceeds worrrying about a few pence per gallon.
Public reaction from friends and colleagues has been interesting - beautiful car - have you won the lottery? - what a car! - wow! - lovely colour!
It really is worth taking the financial plunge and rediscovering the fun and comfort of driving a superb machine.
My first encounter with the S80 was several years ago at a motor show. I was with my young son - we sat in everything, and I was tired out. Spying this big silver car, I went over and sat in it. It was an S80 and of all the cars by far it was the most comfortable.
I do have a gripe, and that's the £1000 bill I picked up because Volvo has installed sub-standard injectors to their 2002 diesel cars. In my opinion, a quality manufacturer would have admitted the fault and replaced them free of charge.
Volvo's attitude has done themselves no favours with this customer. Although it is a good car, I think my next car will be made by a manufacturer who gives a damn.
I had my S80 2.9 for over a year now, and wanted a large, roomy, quality saloon.
I drove to Italy last year and toured all around with three adults and a boot full of luggage on mountain roads, in town driving, and on motorway driving. In all, I did over 3000 trouble-free miles in three weeks. I use the car seven days a week. It's very comfortable, has good performance and good economy.
Earlier this year, I was involved in an accident where I was T-boned on a roundabout. A third party, travelling in excess of 50mph, hit my nearside B-post, rear wing, light cluster and bumper. Volvo loaned me a Jaguar S-type loan car while they repaired the car - I have to say the Jaguar was inferior to the Volvo, and everyone who rode with me in the Jaguar agreed with me.
I'm happy again - I've got my Volvo back.
I am very pleased with my new S80 Special Edition, which included all the luxury fittings, including the sunroof.
The car is quiet and the ride is comfortable. The bundled iPod adapter is a great option, although I would have preferred the sound system to be able to display the title of the the songs rather than just song numbers.
The sound system produces solid surround sound. The cabin of the S80 is the most spacious in its class. I like the car and am glad to have made the purchase. My previous cars included the Lexus ES300 and the Mercedes E200.
