Finally received my car after 3mths wait and how worth the wait it was.
My car is Titanium grey and the R-design package looks a million dollars. 18inch wheels really set it all off.
Handling and ride are all pretty respectable as is performance - its not all show and no go.
I opted for the Black and white interior and it really looks classy - jury is still out how nice it will look in a years time with my two kids and wearing jeans but in a week no problems!
Options wise I went for Child Boosters, great buy. I went for the cheaper Xenon which is another great option as it includes Heater seats. Also had Ipod adaptor which works well but hard to justify the cost if you have to pay for it.
All equipment works well and the climate control is especially good - been hot last two days and keeps the interior just right without having to keep raising and lowering the dials which i have found on a lot of other cars..
Oh and did i mention it looks the business!!
The V50 is a great mover, being based on the Ford Focus platform. The pseudo-estate is not large enough and door pocket storage is woeful. It'll suit an Ikea carpark.
I have had this car now for 2 years and 4 months, now up to 80.000 miles, I like this car to drive, it has a firm ride and handles well, I drive a fair amount of Motorways but I live in the country and have a few country miles to do, average mpg being between 41-46 depending on how I’m driving. Up to the 48k service, the engine would often go into the “limp home mode”(not able to rev above 4k and no power) this happened twice in dangerous situations but Volvo did nothing about it until the 48k service when it occurred when I picked it up on their forecourt! - they had to do something now even though the computer gave them “No fault” They changed everything, all on the warranty.Fuel pump, Injection unit & ECU. And that has cured it, although I think I am not alone in this fault. The dealer (Lookers Chelmsford) did respond in the end, unlike my previous car dealer with my previous car faults (renault laguna-a nightmare ownership) Servicing has not been cheap as it only goes 12k before needing one, I am now looking for another car, but although I like the V50 I really need something bigger For work and home.(looking at Passat) otherwise i would have another one with more toys
I have traded in my 2005 2.0D SE for a 2008 2.0D SE Lux. The improvement in the new model is significant. Gone are the small wing mirrors and cranky gear box that annoyed in the last model. The drive is more involved, the interior fit more solid. Volvo have taken out one clip from the boot floor liner which means it doesn't fit properly and have priced their superior stereo system out of the market by branding it Dynaudio and increasing the price by £650. THats a shame, I miss my old stereo but I have limits. Recommend the IPOD kit if you use MP3, and it will also run direct off a USB key. Electric heated seats on the new lux are fab.
