puchaced this car seond hand 18000 mls one of the best i have owned where volvo get ther 40 mpg from would like to know average 33 max must have done the test down hill ? a solid well built car not to bad of road but no 4x4 recomended to anyone who want a car thats a good all rounder
I have recently come back from a 1500 mile round trip for a skiing holiday in France. Whilst the weather was not bad the car handled whatever was thrown at it superbly and provided excellent space for all 4 passengers.
I have previously carried out the same journey in a SAAB which was in itself very comfortable but not as relaxed as the Volvo (I do prefer the seats in the SAAB however).
Despite being loaded up with all the equipment and 4 people the car still had plenty of power to accelerate when required and I managed 500 miles between fill ups when sitting at the French limit of 80mph (130km/h)so around 34/35mpg which is not bad.
My only real problems with the Volvo are trim working loose on the doors, indicators that cancel left when indicating right and it keeps blowing bulbs.
The SAT NAV also does take some strange routes and guided me back through Paris - there should be an option on the TMC re-routing to say to ignore a problem. This would stop it trying to route you on a 20 mile detour around roadworks at 2.00am just because they are roadworks.
On the whole 8 out of 10 - would I buy another one? possibly but not with an auto box
My first Volvo having made the change from usual German suspects. Was worried "is this a Premium Car"? Well it is, without a doubt.
The D5 engine has a huge torque range due to the twin turbo's, no lag just continual power right through the rev range. The cabin is excellent with great visibility due to higher setting, good quality fixtures and clear dashboard arrangement.
The ride is superb. R design model has stiffer suspension but the aspect ratio of the tyres is quite large so they absorb any bumps with ease. Its a great cruiser on the motorway and very comfortable for passengers. Loads of room in the back with kids car seats and enough space so no kicking the back of daddys seat. Brilliant for trips to the furniture shop when the seats fold down flat.
The performance is very good. 0-60 is around 7.9 seconds on the manual gearbox (with the dealer fitted and approved Polestar upgrade this is reduced to 6.9 seconds with 500 Nm torque which will give most hot hatches a run for their money) which is not bad for a near two tonne machine. The only downside for me is the MPG. Volvo quote 42 MPG however in reality this is nearer 33 MPG on the manual.
Picked up auto SE Lux 1 week ago... great timing as this was 24 hours before major snow. Initial impressions great. Very family friendly, good quality, lovely drive & deliciously rare. Lively 205bhp engine feels torque'y, tho rather juicy IMO (36mpg if I try very hard, which is scary after my Benz Blue Efficiency).
Well equipped, tho' science degree proved essential to master clunky sat nav! Brilliant blue tooth makes a change and family all love it.
Proving to be snow-meister as well as super motorway muncher & multi-activity friendly.... just hope the MPGs improve with miles... looking forward to next 2 years lease.
