For The space and versatility of the Meriva – thanks to the clever rear bench – are amazing for such a small car. It's good to drive, too
Against The visibility is poor and some models are poorly equipped, and you have to pay extra for side and curtain airbags
A superb all-rounder, that's good to drive, spacious and versatile, but prices are high and kit levels low
The smaller of Vauxhall’s two mid-range MPVs, the Meriva has the strengths you’d expect: fine practicality (enhanced further by its FlexSpace seating system), a potentially huge boot and plenty of safety kit.
It is also a relatively accomplished on-road performer, particularly when equipped with the 1.6-litre petrol engine or either of the diesels (1.3 or 1.7 litres).
Inside, the cabin feels sturdy, and there’s plenty of storage space. The FlexSpace system allows the three rear seats to be moved independently, and they can be folded into the floor to create a flat loadbay of over 1400 litres.
Kit levels are respectable, although you’ll need to go to Active trim level before you get air-con as standard.
