I bought the Golf to replace a much loved Polo 1.4 TDI which had only done 157,000 in seven years. As a year old example with 21,000 miles bought privately I saved 40% of its original RRP. As the family’s car of default, it has covered 10,000 miles in five months and it can be reported that this is an excellent car, a lot more refined and comfortable than the equivalent Focus which I travel in a lot. In particular the seats are a lot more comfortable and there is a feeling of quality which is missing in the Ford. My Golf has got the upgraded computer, leather wheel, cruise and central arm rest with Ipod connection. I would buy the lot again. . I am averaging 55 mpg but it is easy to get 60 mpg and I have seen 70 mpg on a gentle run down the Rhine valley. Equally on the same day I cruised on an unrestricted autobahn at 100 mph plus for miles. It has also been good in the snow.
Issues very few. There are one or two creaks and rattles from the cabin particularly round the base of the passenger side seat belt. I think the speedo runs a bit fast .The engine is very refined but not the most powerful this said it is more than adequate 99% of the time.
This is my tenth VW and so far it slots in behind my GTI MK1 & MKII 16v (of my youth) in the all-time favourites list, that is significant praise. Sometimes I have disloyal moments when I consider trading it for a GTD but then I could not get insurance for my children . A very good car and exception value for money.
I have just purchased my fourth Skoda since 2003.…
I wrote a review for this car when I first took…
