I took delivery of my new Tornado Red Golf GTi on the 1st of September 2009. I opted for the 18" Monza II alloys, bi-zenon lights, folding mirrors, touch screen radio and reversing camera (which is billiant!).
I had previously owned a Mark 5 GTI which was an excellent car, however I decided to go for the new one on the back of some very favourable reviews.
There is no denying that the Mark 6 looks awesome. They really have done a great job with the shape of the GTi, with its aggressive front end and much improved, sporty rear end (the mark 5 was a bit dull at the rear). The engine is also a hoot! It goes like stink and sounds great when being driven on the back roads.
Where the Mark 6 starts to let me down is with the interior quality. in 9 months I have had to have a replacement arm rest, as it jammed. Then came a host of annoying rattles & creaks from both driver and passenger door and a rattle from the boot lid too.
It doesnt stop there...when its cold weather some of the cabin plastics creak and when the sun comes out the external gloss black door trim on the outside B pillar expands with the heat and starts creaking uncontrollably. I have already had it replaced and will have to go back to the dealer once again!
To sum up, I'm not happy with the interior of the new Mark 6. I wish VW would spend more time testing their cars to iron out build quality issues. It is a great GTi,sadly tainted by poor build. Can VW still claim to make well built, reliable cars?
I have just purchased my fourth Skoda since 2003.…
I wrote a review for this car when I first took…
