Against Performance is rather sedate if the car is fully loaded. S models are significantly cheaper to buy.
This is our favourite Touran in SE trim. It’s loaded with kit, but doesn’t cost too much to buy or run.
The Volkswagen Touran is a fine family car. It’s not as roomy as the likes of a Peugeot 5008 or Ford S-Max, or VW’s own Sharan, for that matter, but it has space for seven, or transforms into a five-seater with a massive boot. Its more compact dimensions make it easy to park, too.
Even the lowest-spec Touran comes with decent of kit, but we’d upgrade to mid-spec SE trim for a few more desirable luxuries. Don’t go up any further, though - the higher end models compete against much larger, more spacious rivals.
There are some great engines available. We reckon the turbocharged 1.2 petrol will be adequate for most buyers. Performance is merely modest, especially when you’re loaded up, but it’s impressively affordable to buy and run. High-mileage motorists and company car drivers will probably be better off with one of the diesels, though, and the higher-powered version of the 1.6 should be fine for most.
