For The XC90 has space for seven in its classy, practical interior. It’s also refined, comfortable and well equipped.

Against The automatic gearbox can be slow to react and there’s some wind noise from the door mirrors at speed.

We’re yet to try the Volvo XC90 on standard suspension in the UK, but based on what we’ve experienced, everybody in the market for a large SUV should have one on their shopping list.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

The plush Volvo XC90 is ideal for anyone looking to seat seven without plumping for a more rugged SUV or a traditional MPV. The two rearmost seats are unusual in being the same size as those in the middle row, which makes them particularly comfortable. There’s good space back there, too, so the XC90 really can seat seven people in comfort.

Our favourite engine is the D5 diesel. Not only does it provide effortless performance, it brings impressively low running costs. We’d also go for entry-level Momentum trim, which comes with loads of equipment for the money.
