2012 Honda Civic prices revealed

The 2012 Honda Civic will cost from 16,495 when it goes on sale in January.

Buyers will have the choice of a 1.4- or 1.8-litre petrol engine, or a 2.2-litre diesel. The new engines are more powerful and cleaner than the units they replace.

To help boost fuel economy, all versions have an Econ switch, which adjusts the car's management system to maximise efficiency.

A smaller-capacity diesel engine believed to be a 1.6 will join the range in late 2012. It's expected to emit less than 100g/km of CO2.

There are four trims SE, ES, EX and EX GT. The 1.8 ES, which costs 18,995, is expected to be the most popular version.

SE trim
The entry-level Civic gets 16-inch alloys, air-con and USB connectivity.

ES trim
This is expected to be the most popular trim and comes with:
• automatic headlights and wipers
• Bluetooth
• cruise control
• electric folding door mirrors
• front foglamps
• leather-trimmed steering wheel and gearknob
• rear-view parking camera

EX trim
Additional equipment on SE cars includes:

EX GT trim
The top-of-the-range trim builds on EX models with the following:

• bi-xenon headlights
• keyless entry and ignition
• panoramic glass roof
• privacy glass

Versions with the 1.8-litre petrol engine can be specced with an optional five-speed automatic gearbox for 1385.
