The facelifted Alfa Romeo Giulietta is just around the corner, and our sister site, Autocar, has caught leaked images of the upcoming facelifted model.

The imminent replacement of the Giulietta means great savings can be made on the not-long-for-this-world current model.

The Giulietta is priced competitively enough to undercut rivals at the non-discounted price, so our saving takes the upmarket Giulietta down to the same price as a mid-range Ford Fiesta.

Distinctive trim is our favourite, as it comes with dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors and cruise control, without the giddy asking price of higher-spec Giuliettas.

Impressive NCAP crash test results, as well as stability control and a decent selection of airbags make the Giulietta a safe car to be in. The Distinctive model also comes with an alarm, so it’s secure, too.

Alfa Romeo’s reputation for poor reliability isn’t helped by the Giulietta’s disappointing JD Power customer satisfaction survey results.

The Giulietta isn’t as much fun to drive as it ought to be, with a shortage of steering feel and flawed ride.

Should I add any options?

A front parking sensor will help to ease the difficulty caused by numb steering when you’re parking in tight urban bays, and at Β£156 won’t break the bank, either.

What are its rivals?

The upmarket hatchback segment is ever more crowded, with rivals ranging from the BMW 1 Series, Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz A-Class, to the Volvo V40, Lexus CT and, due to the keen pricing of the Giulietta, Volkswagen Golf and higher-end Ford Focus models.
