It’s comfortable, refined, spacious and practical. There's space for six-footers to stretch out on the back seats, while the boot is huge.
The 1.2 TSI petrol engine is impressively refined and has enough power to get the Octavia up to speed, while also returning reasonable fuel economy.
SE trim brings alloys, Bluetooth, DAB radio, USB input, rear parking sensors, climate control and electric windows.
It’s cheaper than a Golf and as a result doesn’t ride with the same sophistication. The diesels are also noisier than their equivalents in the Golf.
Inside, the Octavia isn’t as plush as a Golf or a Passat, with slightly lower-grade plastics.
It’s also not especially exciting to drive, not being as agile as a Ford Mondeo, so those seeking thrills are better off elsewhere.
Should I add any options?
SE trim should have everything you need, with Bluetooth, climate control and digital radio.
Trade up to Elegance trim and you get sat-nav, cruise control, auto lights and wipers and part leather seats.
