Lincoln MKT

Lincoln MKT

The Lincoln MKT is another example from Detroit of a luxury car with an eco-conscience. Even wealthy America is not immune, it seems.

Presented as a four-seater with bags of interior space, the betting is the MKT will see production as a US-only seven-seater MPV.

As you'd expect, the kit list is long. It includes intelligent cruise control, xenon headlamps, reversing cameras, voice-activated controls, a surround-sound audio system, fully reclining front seats and wood trim and leather upholstery.

Power comes from Ford's 411bhp 3.5-litre V6 Ecoboost engine that was also exhibited in the Ford Explorer America concept. Company bosses say that to get the same amount of power out of a non-Ecoboost engine would have required a six-litre power unit.

Emphasising that eco-theme, the bodywork is built from a lightweight resin that is 85% made from waste materials, including household rubbish.

Given the brand's luxury status, though, it might be wise not to dwell on that fact for too long.
