This is the Mitsubishi ASX, which is on the company's stand here at the Geneva motor show.
It aims to blend family car on-road manners with a 4x4s commanding driving position and spacious accommodation for all the family.
Under the bonnet
The big news, however, is under the bonnet. The ASX will be launched with an all-new family of common-rail diesel engines. Initially offered in 1.8-litre form, this engine uses innovative technologies, including a new variable-geometry turbocharger and variable valve-timing system a world first for a passenger car diesel engine.
An engine Stop-start system, a particulate filter, and low-rolling-resistance tyres are all fitted to boost economy a reduce emissions.
Buyers looking for a petrol option will be offered a new 1.6-litre MIVEC engine another in-house development. It will be mated with either a five-speed manual transmission or with Mitsubishis six-speed semi-automatic gearbox.
Two- and four-wheel-drive versions will be available.
