New Ford Fiesta revealed

This is the new Ford Fiesta, which will go on sale this autumn.

More than 12 million Fiestas have been sold since its introduction in 1976, and the latest model's styling is heavily based on the Verve concept car that was first shown at the Frankfurt motor show last September.

There are four petrol engines with power outputs ranging from 59bhp to 113bhp. Diesel buyers can choose from a 67bhp 1.4-litre unit or an 88bhp 1.6.

Later this year, an Econetic version of the car, with emissions of less than 100g/km of carbon dioxide, will be available.

All Fiestas will have a five-speed manual transmission, although a four-speed automatic transmission will be available on selected models.

The car will be available in three- and five-door bodystyles.

Styling touches include a central instrument stack, which takes its inspiration from the layout of a mobile phone keypad. Ford says this makes the Fiesta's controls more intuitive to use.

Ford's Convers+ system, which allows the driver to control the car's music and sat-nav functions via a control on the steering wheel, is an option, as is Bluetooth connectivity and keyless entry.
