Used Seat Leon vs Vauxhall Astra

Those looking for a good family hatchback are spoilt for choice here, with the excellent Seat Leon taking on the Vauxhall Astra. But which one makes more sense as a used purchase? Read on to find...

Used Seat Leon vs Vauxhall Astra

Our Verdict

These are two very closely matched, great-value hatchback family cars. If you’re keen on having the most up-to-date driver aids, or consider practicality a priority, the surefooted and comfortable Vauxhall Astra is a great choice. However, the sharp-looking Seat Leon is more satisfying to drive, has the better driving position and offers slightly lower running costs.

When we first tested these two cars, back in 2016, we gave victory to the Seat by the smallest of margins, and, despite the passage of time, our opinion hasn’t changed. Things are rarely this closely matched, even in this hard-fought class, but if you don’t begrudge the extra £1000 it might cost you it’s the Seat that gets our vote. Just.
