If you’re looking for a small car that’s very practical than the Skoda Fabia is unquestionably one of the best options on the market.
The hatchback version of the compact Skoda won the What Car? Car of the Year Award, in part thanks to its fine road manners, comfortable cabin and affordability. The Skoda Fabia Estate version builds on the Fabia’s already impressive credentials with the addition of an even larger boot.
You won’t find many similarly spacious rivals to the Fabia Estate, either, outside of the Seat Ibiza ST. So, if you’re looking for an affordable small estate, then this should be at the top of your list.
Our favourite in the range is the 89bhp 1.2 TSI petrol version, which offers plenty of power and rarely leaves you wanting for more. You’ll save some money, too, compared to opting for the 109bhp 1.2.
We’d recommend avoiding the entry-level S version, though, as it doesn’t come with air-con and can feel a bit sparse. Go for an SE model instead, which adds air-con, a better media system, rear parking sensors and a height-adjustable driver’s seat.
If you do need an automatic then some versions of the Fabia – including the diesel ones – are offered with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic that works very well. You’ll pay a bit of a premium but it’s not an unreasonable amount.
