South Korean brand SsangYong is now owned by Indian conglomerate Mahindra, and it is rapidly updating its model line-up as it tries to catch up with established brands like Hyundai and Kia.
The bulk of SsangYong's model range is filled with SUVs. The SsangYong Tivoli is, in effect, a rival for the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur, but it offers an unusual amount of interior space in a style-focused class. Generous equipment levels and a keen price make it at least worthy of consideration.
The mid-sized SsangYong SUV is the Korando, a rival for the Nissan Qashqai that tries to compete on space and price, instead of refinement and interior quality. It's a respectable offering, but nothing more than that.
Its larger brother is the SsangYong Rexton, which offers more space for not much cash, but struggles on interior finish and refinement.
SsangYong's other models in the UK are the Turismo MPV, which has seven seats but not much else to recommend it, and the Korando Sports, a keenly priced pick-up.
