The Mercedes EQE SUV is a very quiet electric car that offers strong performance, comes well equipped, has a better range than most rivals and is impressively practical inside. It's pricey, though, and the low-speed ride is often abrupt. Our recommended version is the entry-level EQE 300 in AMG Line trim.

It may be the entry-level trim, but we still think AMG Line is the one to go for. It comes with everything you could ever need, including 20in alloy wheels, heated, cooled and electrically adjustable front seats, wireless phone charging, air suspension, and LED headlights that can automatically adjust their output to remain on high beam without dazzling other drivers.

With a range of 334 miles from its 89kWh (usable capacity) battery and plenty of oomph from its 288bhp electric motor, we think the 350 is the sweet spot in the range. It’s not quite as quick as the Audi Q8 e-tron 50, but performance is still more than sufficient for everyday driving.
