What models will have Jaguar Land Rover’s digital rear view mirror?

A reader is keen to buy a Jaguar Land Rover model with the digital rear view mirror. What's his best option?...

Land Rover ClearSight mirror

I’m researching the purchase of a new car, and have the Jaguar F-Pace and Range Rover Velar on my shortlist. I have noticed that both have recently been updated for the 2021 model year, and I expected them both to be available with the ClearSight digital rear view mirror. However, this does not seem to be the case. Do you know if this is something that will arrive at a later date or is it technically not possible in these two models?

We’ve checked with Jaguar Land Rover and it has confirmed that the 2021 Velar can be ordered with the ClearSight rear view mirror, but the F-Pace cannot at present. Other Jaguar Land Rover models already available with the digital rear view mirror include the Jaguar I-Pace and XE, Land Rover Defender and Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque.

The system is a clever option, giving you a 50-degree view of the road behind your car via a high-definition camera positioned on the back of the vehicle, which sends footage to the rear view mirror when you switch it on.

Standard rear view cameras are often situated low down on the back of the car and they can use a fish-eye lens. This design combination means that, although you get a wide image of the ground just behind the car, it may be distorted and it won’t show what’s happening higher up, either. Images are also usually displayed on the main infotainment screen; while this works well for some drivers, others may prefer to see it in the rear view mirror instead.

ClearSight is already available on the Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover Evoque, and we’d recommend that you try it out for yourself in one of those to see what you think of it.
