It's amazing to think that the Audi A3 Sportback is one of the oldest cars in its class, yet still proves to be an outstanding all-rounder. True, some rivals are better value for money, but in part the A3's additonal initial cost will be offset by the its strong resale values. The Mercedes A-Class runs the A3 close in many respects, but ultimately the A3 is still the pick of the premium family cars. If you're looking for practicality and aren't a badge snob, though, then the Skoda Octavia is both colossal and cheap.get the best price
This has a solid specification, including 16in alloy wheels, air-con, xenon headlights and a 7.0in infotainment system with sat-nav, DAB radio and Bluetooth. It’s a no-brainer if you're a company car driver looking for reasonable company car tax.
Engine:30 TFSI 116
This entry level engine (now badged 30 TFSI) still has plenty of pep, but needs to be revved hard to get up to motorway speeds with any vigour. We'd recommend the more powerful and refined 1.5 TFSI if your budget can stretch to it.
