Review

Despite its more sporty aesthetic, the Audi E-tron Sportback drives in a very similar manner to the regular E-tron SUV, but that’s no bad thing. No, it isn't as sharp as the Jaguar I-Pace in corners, but it is extremely hushed and most versions do a great job of soaking up bumps, while the interior is lavish. As a bonus, it remains usefully practical, too, even with that heavily raked roof. The only real disappointment is the range between charges.

The Sportback isn’t available with the lesser E-tron trims, making this the entry point to the range. Standard equipment includes a sporty bodykit, 21in wheels, Audi Matrix LED headlights, adaptive sport air suspension, heated front seats, faux-leather upholstery, two-zone climate control and charging points on both sides of the car so you never have to drag cables over the top of it.

This version of the E-tron Sportback hits the sweet spot between performance (0-62mph in 5.7sec) and range (247 miles), plus it’s more comfortable than the pricier S version. Just bear in mind that the Jaguar I-Pace is faster still and can go even farther on a charge.
