Review

Despite its more sporty aesthetic, the Audi E-tron Sportback drives in a very similar manner to the regular E-tron SUV, but that’s no bad thing. Yes, it’s not quite as sharp as a Jaguar I-Pace in corners, but it is lavish inside, is extremely hushed and does a great job of soaking up bumps – even on 21in wheels. And thanks to some clever packaging, it remains usefully practical, too, even with that heavily raked roof. In fact, the only real disappointment is the range between charges – something we hope Audi can improve upon in the future.

If you want all the options but don’t want to go through the hassle of selecting them individually, then Vorsprung is the trim for you. The standard equipment list reads: 22-inch titanium alloy wheels, orange brake calipers, soft close doors, heated steering wheel, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, and diamond stitched super sport seats. It is, as you’d expect, eye-wateringly expensive.

This version pairs a 95kWh battery pack with a pair of electric motors that can produce up to 402bhp and an official range of 241 miles. But while the range is good and performance strong, the Jaguar I-Pace and Tesla Model X are both faster and can run for longer.
