The Q3 looks like a rather compelling proposition. It’s immensely practical, features a high-tech interior and is decent to drive. However, with the predicted best selling engine feeling a little rough around the edges, the diesel engine currently hamstrung by a vague manual gearbox and a ride that can't quite match the Volvo XC40, the Q3 isn't quite a class leader. This brings some attractive, additional styling details such as S line body trim and chrome exhaust finishers. However, apart from leather sports seats, its other features, 18in alloys and xenon headlights, are more 'wants' than 'needs'. If you're buying an S line avoid the no-cost option of sports suspension – regular Dynamic suspension is more comfortable.

This engine pulls even harder than the 1.4, but sounds and feels more strained when doing so. Higher CO2 emissions and poor fuel economy also make it hard to recommend over the smaller petrol motor. It’s offered only with quattro four-wheel drive and a seven-speed S tronic automatic gearbox.
