The Q3 looks like a rather compelling proposition. It’s immensely practical, features a high-tech interior and is decent to drive. However, with the predicted best selling engine feeling a little rough around the edges, the diesel engine currently hamstrung by a vague manual gearbox and a ride that can't quite match the Volvo XC40, the Q3 isn't quite a class leader. Stepping up to S line trim gets you a stiffer suspension set-up (which we would actually recommend avoiding), 19in alloys, a sportier bodykit and three-spoke leather multifunction steering wheel.

With 227bhp this engine produces plenty of power. However, like the smaller 1.5, the 2.0-litre demands plenty of revs before it gets a shuffle on, with it feeling rather peaky. Therefore, if you want effortless performance we’d recommend going with the diesel.
