What should I look for in a used Audi Q4 e-tron?

Many Q4s will have been company or lease cars and, as a result, you should check the condition of the paintwork carefully. Most unsightly scuffs and dings will have been attended to at the end of the lease period, but these can often be of the ‘Smart’ repair type and the quality of finish can vary. Also, check for swirls in the paintwork from car washes.

Ensure the history is absolutely watertight and there are no mileage discrepancies. Look at the seats, pedals and steering wheel to make sure wear is commensurate with mileage.

There have been some problems with the car’s infotainment system with phones not connecting properly and flickering screens being the main complaints. The latest software from Audi can cure some of these ills.

Is a used Audi Q4 e-tron reliable?

In our latest What Car? Reliability Survey, the Q4 e-tron finished seventh out of 16 cars in the electric SUV class with an overall score of 93%.

Audi as a brand placed 24th out of 30 manufacturers featured with an overall score of 89%. This placed the brand above Land Rover, Nissan, Seat and Vauxhall but below most of its premium rivals including BMW, Kia, Mercedes and Volvo.

As part of our annual Reliability Survey, What Car? readers reported mixed experiences with the Audi Q4 e-tron’s reliability and dealer service.

While some owners found the car dependable, others encountered electrical faults, particularly with the infotainment system and driver assistance features. Several readers mentioned touchscreen glitches and connectivity issues, requiring software updates or dealer intervention.

The dealer network received a mixed response. Some owners praised efficient service, but others were frustrated by long wait times for repairs, particularly when parts were required. A few readers reported delays in diagnosing issues, leading to repeated visits before faults were fully resolved.

Despite its premium badge, the Q4 e-tron’s reliability record is inconsistent. While some owners have had trouble-free experiences, others have faced persistent software and electrical faults, and dealer service has not always been as smooth as expected.
