The outstanding Audi Q7 offers a relaxing blend of comfort and peaceful cruising manners, while proving surprisingly agile for such a spacious seven-seat luxury SUV. Go for the 50 TDI in S Line trim, or the 55 TFSI if you really don’t want a diesel.

The plushest version of the 60 TFSIe gets gigantic 22in wheels, soft-closing doors, a heated steering wheel, a 360-degree camera system, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, keyless entry and lots of extra safety aids. Only worth a look if you’re a serious hedonist.

If you want a bit more power from your plug-in hybrid, the 60 TFSIe’s 3.0-litre petrol V6 and electric motor combine to produce 456bhp. That’s good enough for a 0-62mph time of just 5.4sec and the same 27 mile all electric range. Again, an X5 45e is in a lower company car tax bracket.
