The R8 does everything a proper supercar should - and then some. It's rampantly quick in a straight line, especially the Performance version, yet the four-wheel drive keeps it all safe and manageable, but still enormous fun. It also has possibly the best engine of any supercar car on sale, bar a Porsche 911 GT3, along with a comfortable interior that makes it supremely useable every day. For those looking for the absolute last tenth of finesse and purity from their supercar driving experience, it must be said that a 911 GT3 or McLaren 570S eclipse it (fractionally), though.read the full model review
Lots of features, as there should be for the price. They include 19in alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated leather sports seats, climate control, a multi-function steering wheel, sat-nav, Bluetooth, DAB radio, front and rear parking sensors, and keyless entry and start.

It might be less powerful than the Plus model, but the cheapest R8 is our favourite. The engine is characterful and deliriously entertaining in the way it delivers its monstrous pace and warbling, popping soundtrack. As an indication of how fast it is, we managed 3.2sec to 60mph in wet conditions, so you really don’t need more power. Its long-revving, elastic power delivery and – again – that noise, will be amongst the biggest reasons buyers will be attracted to the R8 over its rivals. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox is standard.
