Review

In the ultra-competitive arena of the premium family car, the BMW 1 Series is the best of the lot. It delivers a fantastic blend of driver appeal and ride comfort, along with decent practicality, a top-notch interior and a brilliant infotainment system.

Trim: M Sport

M Sport adds 18in alloy wheels, more distinctive bumpers, stiffer M Sport suspension (which offers the best ride and handling balance), and a few more luxuries, such as power-folding door mirrors, heated front seats and leather trim. So if you are buying a 1 Series because for its premium or sportier flavour, M Sport makes the most sense.

Engine: 116d

It may offer the lowest CO2 emissions and the best fuel economy in the lineup, but we think it’s still worth going for the more powerful and quicker 118d.
