Trim: M Sport
M Sport adds more distinctive bumpers, stiffer suspension (which, as we've mentioned, offers the best ride and handling balance) and a few luxuries, such as power-folding door mirrors, heated front seats and leather trim. If you are buying a 1 Series because it's a more premium or sportier offering, M Sport actually makes the most sense.
The 118d is expected to be the big seller and we can see why if you're a high-mileage driver. Okay, an A200d is quicker but not by much, and the 118d feels punchy and impressive in town or on motorways. And it's also quieter than an A200d, with a very silky stop-start system. It works better with the automatic gearbox than the 118i, too, and will do a real-world 50-plus MPG.
