The model
Read full reviewThe BMW 3 Series leads the charge in the premium executive class. Its primary appeal is in the way it drives, but its engines, standard equipment list and infotainment system are first rate as well. The firm ride on M Sport models is just about the only thing we can grumble about in this near-flawless executive car.
get the best priceThe trim
See full equipmentThe M Sport Pro Edition effectively gets all the goodies that come on the standard M Sport cars, plus 19in wheels, blacked out exterior trim, sports seats, M seat belts, sun protection glass, an M leather steering wheel, BMW individual aluminium interior trim, an M Sport braking system, adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering and an M Sport differential (the latter only coming as standard on 330d models).
The engine
See full engine specsThis is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder mild hybrid boasting 187bhp, and it’s just the ticket if you’re looking to balance economy with performance. You get plenty of poke from low to mid-range revs, so there’s no need to hoof it constantly to gain speed, making it relaxing to drive. When you do extend it to full chat it’s as pacey as a Mercedes C 220 d or Audi A4 40 TDI (0-62mph comes in just 6.8sec), but isn’t as quiet as the Audi. It's RDE2 compliment, which means it doesn't incur the 4% diesel surcharge for company car tax.
