What alternatives should I consider to a used BMW 6 Series hatchback?

The progenitor of this car, the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, more or less had the marketplace to itself. The lower and better-looking 6 GT is a more credible rival for the current crop of fastback-style coupe-saloons.

The Audi A7 Sportback comes with a smooth and punchy petrol engine, in its 45 TFSI  guise, that makes it an ultra-quiet cruiser. Its high-grade interior is another factor in its favour.

The Mercedes CLS has performance and handling far better than you’d expect from a car so large. It has a classy interior and stylish looks, allied to a reasonable amount of interior space, considering its sloping rear roofline.
