The iX combines attention-grabbing styling with a soothing and opulent interior. It’s spacious, quick and extremely quiet. We’d avoid the entry-level xDrive40 because its real-world range is rather restrictive – the range-topping xDrive50 is where the iX shines, thanks to a much longer range, a smoother ride and the ability to charge up more quickly.

Sport trim gets you plenty of luxuries, including 21in aerodynamic alloys, full-LED headlights (laserlights are optional), four-zone climate control, a 12-speaker sound system, wireless phone charging, a head-up display, 12.3in digital dials, a 14.8in infotainment screen, built-in sat-nav, heated seats and leather-look upholstery called SensaTec.

This entry-level model is plenty quick enough, but the range between charges is disappointing and it can't charge up very quickly.
