BMW X1 Estate sDrive 18d SE 5dr

We don't think you really need 4WD in an X1, so the BMW X1 sDrive 18d SE - the cheapest model in the range - is our favourite.

Trim level

M Sport
Range-topping M Sport models get different 18in wheels and a bodykit to differentiate them from xLine versions. They’re distinctive to look at, but also push up the price considerably. If you do go for this trim, be sure to deselect (at no extra cost) the unforgiving Sport suspension and go for the more comfortable standard set-up instead.,
SE
This entry-level trim brings 17in alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, a Bluetooth infotainment system with sat-nav, a USB socket, a DAB radio and black cloth upholstery. It’s the best-value trim, but you’ll want to add a few key options, including automatic emergency braking.,
xLine
Adds different 18in alloys, LED headlights, heated leather seats and satin aluminium exterior highlights to everything you get with SE trim. It's worth a look if you love your creature comforts, although we'd still recommend cheaper SE trim.,
Sport
Brings sports seats, sporty looking exterior trim and a larger 18in alloy wheels. You also get contrast stitching inside, ambient lighting and gloss black roof rails. Overall, it’s just an appearance package and doesn’t add much really useful extra equipment.,
