Review

The BMW X1 is good to drive, classy inside and hugely practical. It isn't as quiet or comfortable as the best family SUVs, but it's a fine buy if you fancy something a little more sporty.

Most of the additional kit you get over SE trim is purely cosmetic, with 18in alloy wheels, front sports seats and some contrast stitching on the dash. We’d stick to SE trim and spend the money on some useful options, instead.

Worth a look if you do lots or miles and are willing to consider a diesel. It pulls harder than the petrols at low revs, so feels quicker than the 0-62mph time of 9.3sec would suggest.
