Review

The X3 offers a superb driving experience with a deeply impressive lineup of engines, as well as a spacious and high-quality interior. That all adds up to make it one of the very best large SUVs to buy, but it’s still worth checking out the Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60 as similarly capable alternatives.

Trim: SE

Entry-level trim is packed with kit, including luxuries including LED headlights, automatic lights and wipers, interior ambient lighting, 18in alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, cruise control and heated leather seats and an 8.8in infotainment screen with sat-nav and Apple CarPlay. There’s no need to spend any extra, apart from adding adjustable lumbar support to the front seats.

Engine: xDrive20i

Petrol power starts with this 2.0-litre 184bhp engine, which we’re yet to try. On paper it offers similar outright pace to the Land Rover Discovery Sport P200, but is slower than the Q5 45 TFSI.
