Review

The X3 offers a superb driving experience with a deeply impressive lineup of engines, as well as a spacious and high-quality interior. That all adds up to make it one of the very best large SUVs to buy, but it’s still worth checking out the Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60 as similarly capable alternatives.

Trim: M Sport

Also adds 19in wheels over the SE plus a more aggressive-looking bodykit and a stiffer sports suspension, as well as an upgraded infotainment system and digital instrument dials. SE trim makes more sense, though.

Engine: xDrive30d

The 261bhp 3.0-litre straight-six diesel model is a relaxing car and would be our pick over the hot M40i and M40d. It makes more financial sense for the majority of people and it’s not far behind those cars in real-world pace.
