Review

The BMW is everything a big luxury SUV should be. Its huge interior is as practical as it is luxurious, and it’s comfortable and quiet on the road. What’s more, its style – not to mention its sheer scale – gives it an element of theatre and desirability that few rivals can match.

Trim: M Sport

M Sport trim adds sporty cosmetic touches and upgraded brakes. The aesthetic upgrades alone will make it popular with buyers, but we'd save ourselves the extra cash and stick with the standard trim.

Engine: xDrive30d

The xDrive30d uses a 261bhp six-cylinder diesel engine to deliver a pleasing blend of performance and fuel economy. It gets you up to motorway speeds in an effortless manner, so you never find yourself yearning for the extra muscle of a V8, and it’s civilised, too, proving quieter and smoother than the V6 diesel found in the Audi Q7. Our favourite of the X7's engines.
