A big American car wouldn't be complete without a big, brutish petrol engine. You can choose between a 255bhp 3.6-litre V6 or a 320bhp 4.6-litre V8. Both are quick, but they'll drain your wallet as quickly as they drain your tank. The V6 returns 20.2mpg, and the V8 is even worse at 16.9mpg. There's no diesel option.
Cadillac SRX 4x4 ride & handling
The SRX grips the road firmly enough, but it displays more than its fair share of body lean through bends. The ride is mainly comfortable, but it feels floaty over bigger bumps and you can hear suspension knocks. The Magnetic Ride Suspension, standard on Sport Luxury models, automatically firms up the suspension for corners and softens it for comfort on the straights.
Cadillac SRX 4x4 refinement
The SRX has a fairly peaceful cabin. The engines stay smooth and quiet most of the time and road noise is well subdued. The wind can be heard fluttering around the door mirrors at higher speeds, though, and the suspension knocks over bigger bumps, although it isn't loud.
